Itinerary: 4-night New Zealand coastal sailing
Sailing Date: 23 November 2025
Ship: Noordam
Author: Natasha Henry – Infinity Cruise
HIGHLIGHTS
1. Cabin ready on arrival – Our Veranda stateroom was ready the moment we stepped onboard, with twin bedding already set.
2. Ship was Spotless – The ship has dark and beige tones with pops of soft refurbishment like new carpet and curtains, but it is very well maintained and clean. It was full, and even on a sea day it still felt spacious.
3. Easy on and off in port – All you need is your room key and passport. Tauranga and Napier both used the port’s ramp rather than the ships, so it was quite steep, but staff were on hand to assist guests with mobility issues or wheelchairs.
4. Pools with a view – The Lido deck pool has a retractable roof, and there is a sea view pool aft on the same deck.
5. Crow’s Nest is the hub – Forward on deck 10 with a covered observation area, a bar and a games area. It is where everyone ends up, and it was our spot for sail away drinks.
6. Smooth handling of a rough day – High winds meant we couldn’t dock in Picton, so we scenic cruised the Marlborough Sounds instead. The cruise director had extra activities organised quickly and smoothly.
7. Coffee tip – Have it “here” and you get a proper mug, a tray and a free piece of biscotti. Takeaway is just a takeaway coffee. Be sure to ask for a double shot, as a single shot is the default.
8. Navigator app limits – It only works on the ship’s Wi-Fi while you’re onboard, and you can’t order room service through it. Not as handy as you’d hope.
9. Check the daily schedule – Buffet hours changed almost every day, so read the schedule delivered the night before to make sure you don’t miss out on breakfast.
10. Close to home sailing – Embarking in Auckland was a huge bonus!
